Reading the four-month run-up to launch
The captured window runs from 23 April 2026 through 6 August 2026 — just over three and a half months spanning the final marketing push and the first day after launch. Of the twenty entries, eleven are "Akatori Tales" narrative posts, which means Contrast Games spent more of its pre-launch Steam News output on world-building short fiction than on conventional marketing beats. Those narrative drops weren't evenly spaced either: April and May carried a steady one-to-two-per-week cadence of Tales, while June and July shifted toward announcement posts — an Endix showcase appearance on 23 May, the demo update on 29 June, and the "going live on August 5th" announcement on 23 July — as launch got closer and Contrast Games needed to convert wishlist interest into a concrete release date.
Two entries mark hard transitions in the game's availability rather than routine marketing. On 15 July, Contrast Games warned that the standalone pre-release demo would be disabled soon, and it went offline on 22 July, a full two weeks before the 5 August full release — a common pattern for pre-launch demos that publishers want to retire before a paid version ships alongside it. Then, on 6 August, the day after launch, Contrast Games shipped a Linux-specific patch addressing display-mode switching and a menu confirmation-window bug, which is the clearest signal in this timeline that post-launch support began within 24 hours of release rather than waiting for a first major patch.
One milestone post stands out for what it reveals about demand ahead of launch: on 30 April, Contrast Games announced Akatori had reached "almost 200,000" Steam wishlists, a figure the developer chose to publicize on its own Steam News feed rather than through a separate press release, suggesting the community-facing news feed was Contrast Games' primary channel for both narrative content and business milestones alike. Update titles, dates and categories were captured from the Steam News API for appid 1442520 on ; only the twenty most recent of seventy-seven total posts were reviewed for this pass.
Only two of the twenty entries are labeled patch notes rather than announcements or Akatori Tales: the 29 June demo update that reworked Energy, Breath and Dodge ahead of launch, and the 6 August Linux fix that followed launch by a single day. Everything else in this window is either narrative content or launch-marketing beats, which matters if you're filtering this timeline specifically for balance changes rather than lore or announcements.
