What the game is

A staff, a sealed bird, the Amber Storms

Akatori casts you as Mako, a teenage girl raised in the Firebird Temple, who sets out to save the game's worlds from the Amber Storms — a corrupting phenomenon that twists people and nature into hostile "amberized" forms while also producing the valuable amber crystals that give the game its name. A mysterious red bird sealed inside her staff travels with her; the staff doubles as a melee weapon, a ranged throw, and a traversal tool across five hand-crafted, pixel-art-over-3D locations.

Contrast Games built combat around fast, responsive movement and multi-form attacks, layered over more than twenty regular enemy types and several unique bosses spread across those five locations. An adaptive soundtrack shifts automatically between calm exploration and combat, and the game ships with full controller support, including DualSense-specific features on Sony's pad. Akatori carries age ratings of 10+ from Brazil's DEJUS, a Steam Germany-style 12+, and 13+ from Indonesia's IGRS, all citing violence, and its Steam store page quotes press coverage from Kotaku ("Gorgeous pixel art, side-scrolling platforming, tight combat?") and PC Gamer ("I'm a fan of Akatori's look.").

The full release is published by Games Harbor and Esprit Games and supports interface and subtitle text in English, Russian, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Japanese. It launched for Windows PC on Steam on 5 August 2026, two days before this page's research pass, with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions following on 12 August 2026 and a Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for 2027. A separate, much smaller product — the free Akatori: Chapter One prologue demo — was released back in April 2024 by a different developer/publisher pair, and is covered on its own page rather than folded into these full-release facts.

Who this wiki is for

This wiki serves two different visits. If you're still deciding whether to buy Akatori, the platform & release-date page and system requirements page answer the practical questions — when it lands on your platform and whether your PC can run it — while the quick facts card above and the combat & traversal page cover what actually playing it feels like. If you already own it, the 31-achievement list tracks completion with real global unlock percentages rather than guessed rarity, and the patch notes timeline keeps a dated record of what changed and when, so you don't have to scroll back through Steam's own news feed to find a specific fix.

Every number, date, and quote on this site traces back to a first-party Steam source — the Store API, the News API, or the public Community achievements page — captured and dated rather than copied from another wiki's summary. Where Contrast Games' own press release was unreachable, as with the console rollout dates, this wiki says so explicitly and names the secondary source it relied on instead, so you can judge the evidence yourself rather than take a claim on faith.
